You needed to meet up with a potential client at a coffee shop by 9 am.
Getting up and dressing up on time but for some reason, you are stuck in a mad traffic jam somewhere in Lagos.
With your growing frustration, you call the client apologizing in advance and explaining your plight. Graciously, this client understandably reschedules. Sighing with relief, you brave on the traffic because at his point you cannot turn back.
In another minute, your frustration builds up again. It seems you may be in traffic for a while.
If you reside in Lagos, at some point in your stay, there’s a 60 percent chance you’re likely to be stuck in traffic. And besides the usually known facts in avoiding Lagos traffic, there’s still no guarantee you will not be stuck in one.
You will testify that being held up clamped together (for commercial passengers), under the hot weather is not fun at all. But even in the most uncomfortable of situations, it’s always up to you to make the most out of it.
When next you’re stuck in a mad Lagos traffic, here are some activities you can engage in:
- Plug into your traffic playlist
Creating a Traffic playlist may seem like an easy task but it does require a good deal of work. This means that before being stuck in the crazy traffic, you should have taken time to select the songs making it into the playlist.
Most times, because of the state of the traffic, it is more likely you are selecting songs with upbeat tempos.
Inspirationally-themed songs are also a great choice when making the selection.
Some examples of songs perfect for your Traffic jam playlist include:
Adekunle Gold’s ‘Surrender’, Teni’s ‘Askamaya’, Davido’s ‘Nwa Baby’, Wizkid’s and Runtown’s collab ‘Lagos to Kampala’ and etc.
2. Grab a captivating book
Trust me, when I emphasize ‘captivating’, it is with purpose. The great thing about reading a captivating book while stuck in traffic is that it excludes you from the impatience the traffic naturally stirs.
The amazing thing about paperbooks is that you can multi-task: reading the book while listening oyour Traffic Jam playlist.
On the other hand, if you’re easily distracted and can’t do both or even hate reading books, relax, you can totally plug in your headphones and listen to audiobook versions of your favourite books. Isn’t life so beautiful?
3. Organize or schedule meetings and activities
Depending on your kind of business or profession, being stuck in traffic is the perfect time to organize or schedule your day, week or eve month. The awesome part of traffic scheduling, especiallywhen you’re in a private car, is that you can converse, speak to clients, business partners, collegues etc. over the phone.
Be frustrasted or cry
I know right? This seems like bad advice but hear me out. Naturally, you’re prone to get upset while stuck in traffic especially when you’re running out of time for an important appointment.
Crying or cursing out is not far-fetched while stuck in traffic somaybe, it is okay to vent out all of that bad energy and just let it go.
And get this, while frustration is not a preriqusite for creativity, you never can tell the amazing and insightful text, audio or visual content you might create chanelling your traffic frustration for the online community to watch, digest, and maybe potentially laugh their butts off.
