More popularly, women issues can arguably be said to be taken more seriously.
No doubt, it is no puzzle that such arguments come up because every now and then, the global community seems to be wrapped up in discussions concerning women.
Whether it’s unequal pay of women at the workplace, child marriage, domestic violence, sexual violence or gender inequality, more and more modern arguments are seemingly in support of women. To be fair, one can argue that women deserve this new-age attention as they have been left in the shadows for ages.
It is as if the modern woman, in picking up shreds of ages of degraded womanhood, decides to stand tall and grow taller still.
All’s well that ends well but maybe, just maybe, the modern global society may be neglecting the male folks.
The attempt of the male human species in defining the female folk birthed the popular rhetoric question: ‘What do women want?’ This rhetoric might have started off as a question, asked by an earlier man in trying to figure out the female of his species. Time and experience may have, however, transitioned this question into a rhetoric one. Posed, but never expecting an answer in return.
Call it acceptance of fate, but the male human species subconsciously refrained from figuring out his female counterpart.
On the other hand, it seems that while the male species focused on figuring out females, the females had no interest in figuring out the males.
Traditional gender roles too do not permit men the vulnerability of being in positions that allow this questioning of want.
Males, for instance, are raised to be more secretive about their issues. When it comes to issues like sexual harassment and rape, males are more unlikely to express themselves.
What this secretive nature and inexpression of life issues, it is beyond challenging for women to figure out what men really do want.
So used to being ‘rescued‘ and ‘taken care of‘ that women neglect males needs. But isn’t it a wonder that males also have desires?
Popularly, it’s not unusual Men aspire for general things like academic growth, professional advancement, financial stability, and family. Personal desires and dreams of males are often neglected by some of their female partners, so engrossed in their self-obsession.
It goes without a doubt that more efforts should be put into the males in our lives. As much as women expect love, care and comfort from their male counterparts, it is only fair to equally extend these same sentiments.
Communication is key. Ask a man in your life today what his desires are. Because as much as men want to generally believe they’re are simple, the right term should be, ‘less complex than females.’ Men are complex too. Their emotions also get muggled up and they face fears like every other woman.
I bet you’re wondering who will bell the cat? How can we get our men to admit to their weaknesses and vulnerability? Would men be willing to be the classical ‘damsels‘ and let the women in their lives be their rescuing knights?
How can we get the men in our lives allow us find out what they really want?
Dear men, what do you really want?
