For decades, women and men have viewed the concept of catcalling differently. Women call it harassment, men call it compliments.
A 20-year-old student from the Netherlands is making a powerful statement about sexual objectification in through an unusual channel.
Noa Jansma took selfies with her catcallers for a month and posted them to Instagram using the handle @dearcatcallers.
Women from across the world have followed the journey of the young adult sharing their experiences and commenting on the men she’s taken selfies with.
In all pictures, you see a straight-faced Jansma posing with men smiling at the camera as she shares the comments they have made.
Tons of reactions has trailed all her posts since she began journaling #dearcatcallers a month ago.
Jansma wrote in her most recent post that her part of the project is over, but to prove that this is “a global phenomenon,” she would like to pass the reins onto other women around the world who could document their experiences with catcalling as well.
But, she tells Buzzfeed, she wants to find “responsible” women to do it.
“Because what I do is a bit risky,” she said.
